EachStep Blackley has celebrated its first year of delivering specialist care and support to the people of Manchester.

The service, which is operated by national social care charity Community Integrated Care, welcomed its first residents on 13th July 2012. They marked this momentous occasion by hosting a BBQ and party in the glorious sunshine, which brought together 200 of the people they support, their loved ones and local health and social care professionals.

In its first year, EachStep Blackley has been acclaimed for its unique approach to dementia care, praised by Professor Alistair Burns, the Department of Health’s Dementia Tsar, as “One of the most innovative care services I have seen”.EachStep was recognised at the UK Dementia Awards and Social Impact Awards; and has been visited by international delegations seeking out best-practice in UK care, including members of the Singapore Government.

Michelle Phillips, Manager at EachStep Blackley, says: “One year ago, we launched EachStep Blackley and in this time we have been thrilled by the impact made by our joined-up approach to specialist support. We wanted to mark such an important occasion with a fantastic celebration of the achievements of the people we support and our wonderful staff. I'd also like to especially thank our Fundraising Committee - without them, this event wouldn't have been possible.

She adds, “In just 12 months, EachStep Blackley has transformed the lives of the people we support. We are looking forward to many more years of providing pioneering dementia care.”
